Ingredients

Scale

For the Steak and Sauce

  • 1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank steak, thinly sliced)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated (optional for added flavor)
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Pasta

  • 8 oz rotini pasta (or any pasta of your choice)

For Garnish (Optional)

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the rotini pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente—generally about 8-10 minutes. Drain the pasta and set aside.
  2. Cook the Steak: Season the thinly sliced steak generously with salt and pepper. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak slices in batches to avoid overcrowding, and cook each side for 2-3 minutes or until your desired level of doneness is reached. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, grated ginger (if using), and red pepper flakes (if desired for heat). Stir the mixture well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Simmer the Sauce: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, cooking for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Thicken the Sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry (1/2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water) to the sauce and continue to simmer for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce reaches a sticky, thick consistency.
  6. Combine the Steak and Pasta: Return the cooked steak to the skillet, stirring to coat the meat thoroughly with the honey garlic sauce. Then add the cooked rotini pasta, tossing everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce and steak is well integrated.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and transfer to serving plates. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, if desired. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Thinly slicing the steak ensures quick cooking and helps the meat absorb the sauce flavors better.
  • You can substitute rotini with any pasta such as penne, fusilli, or spaghetti.
  • Adjust the red pepper flakes to control the heat level in the dish.
  • The ginger is optional but adds a lovely depth to the sauce.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
